     Modified Rig (Here

With swept back spreaders and reinforced swept back shrouds, the backstay has been removed and a new main with a moderate roach has been installed. Now, Aussie has a modern sail plan in keeping with Farriers more recent designs. Bending the mast for draft control is provided by the mainsail tension on the leech. Forestay tension is maintained by the swept back upper shrouds. For added insurance, running backstays could be easily fitted. The chain plates and masthead attachment are already installed.

         A Bit of History

Aussie was launched in 1986 and has an interesting history. She was originally built and owned by a university lecturer who installed an electric motor and used Aussie to experiment with environmentally friendly propulsion systems. He had little success and eventually the project was shut down and he was forced to sell.

 Construction

Aussie was built using the West System. The plywood sheets (3/8") were saturated in epoxy resin which was allowed to soak into the laminate and penetrate the wood grain. This in itself offers excellent water protection. In addition, Aussie has been completely glassed over with woven rovings and epoxy. This has resulted in a completely watertight seal around the boat. She is as dry as a bone- no delamination, no soft spots. Aussie was then sprayed with International 2 pack polyurethane, providing a hard, impact resistant finish. She has been beautifully faired and many can't believe she isn't fibreglass.

Special Features

Farrier's folding ama sytem offers excellent versatility. Now there is no such thing as too much beam.

The folding rudder and centreboard with safety trip mechanism mean you sail in shallow water with confidence. If it gets too shallow, the centreboard kicks up and then the rudder kicks up, harmlessly, giving plenty of warning. No need to constantly check  the depth sounder. This system is fabulous for beaching the boat for a picnic.
